John Scalzi has posted one of his short stories, "How I Proposed to My Wife: An Alien Sex Story". It's being offered as shareware: you can download it for free, but you are encouraged to make a donation through PayPal or Amazon. Half of the money will be donated to The Lupus Foundation of America.
It's a cute story based on the strange and wonderful biology of reproduction. I think it's definitely worth a small donation.

Reproductive isolating mechanisms are such that they usually prevent interspecies crossings.That is the way nature has evolved and try to keep the genetic purity intact at least at species level.
ReplyDeleteDepiction of courtship and even sex is alright but reproduction does not seem possible owing to many physical and ethological barriers.

ReplyDeleteI suspect that if we do ever meet intelligent extraterrestrial life, at least some humans will attempt courtship/mating/sexual titillation. I's just human nature.
ReplyDeleteMay be ,may not be Peggy,it depends...on lot of extrinsic and intrinsic factors .We are familiar with human nature only and usually tempted to put the things anthropomorphically .But it is really an interesting topic to be delved in deep.
ReplyDeleteEven human beings are known to face the 'problem of performance 'when such eventualities arise.So alien encounters of amorous kind is fraught with many such possibilities !May be some sort of 'displacement behavour' be displayed by both the parties !An sf could be at least written on the subject.
