"Noah's Ark" by Narendra Desirazu is the winner of the Scientific Indian's Science Fiction Short Story Contest sponsored prize for the "story with the most creative scientific content (and does not break any laws of science)".
It's a tale of global warming and microbes from Mars with unusual properties. It's heavy on telling rather than showing, and doesn't have much action, but it centers on an interesting idea. Go read it.
